Support that keeps up as volume grows: chat, phone and AI answers for the questions that repeat, with a clear route to a person.
As you grow, the same questions come back. Start with the channels your customers already use, add automation where questions repeat, and keep a clear route to a person. Here is one way to put that together, in order.
4 parts, in order.
Website and messaging chat, so customers can ask while they are on your site or in their messaging app.
A cloud phone system for support and sales, with routing and analytics — no hardware needed.
AI that resolves repeat tickets end to end from your help content and systems, with a hand-off to a person. It bills per resolution on top of the plan, so size it against your own ticket volume.
Freshdesk ticketing and workflows, so every request has an owner as volume grows. Growth is $19 per agent a month on annual billing if ticketing is what you need; the AI add-on costs extra per agent.
No-signup tools that help you set this up — free, right in your browser.
Take a recent batch of tickets, group the questions that repeat, and note which ones your help content already answers well. Those are the candidates for automation.
Add chat where customers already ask, and answer from the same help content.
A cloud phone with routing and voicemail sends each call to the right person without desk hardware; decide who covers calls outside office hours.
Let an AI agent answer the repeat questions you mapped. Test it on past questions, including ones it should not answer, and check the handover to a person.
One place for tickets and workflows, so every request has an owner.
Pick the channels first. If nobody phones you, leave out the phone system; if your tickets do not repeat, leave out the AI. Then wire each part to the help desk and check it before you add the next. Every link below is one the vendors document themselves.
Connect Freshchat to Freshdesk. An agent then turns a conversation into a Freshdesk ticket with “Resolve and Create Ticket”, or an automation creates one, for example when no agent has replied. Chats are not converted on their own by default, so decide which of the two you want.
Check: Send a test chat from a private window, resolve it into a ticket, and confirm the ticket sits in Freshdesk under the right contact.
Install the Aircall integration for Freshdesk. For every call and voicemail, Aircall creates a ticket in Freshdesk on the caller’s contact, and the agent sees that contact’s history when the phone rings. Aircall sells a minimum of three licences.
Check: Ring your support number from a phone Freshdesk does not know and leave a voicemail. One new ticket should appear for that call, on a new contact.
Decide who owns which kind of request before anything is automated: billing, orders and technical questions each go to a named person or group in Freshdesk.
Check: Open three test tickets, one of each kind. Each must land with its owner without anyone moving it by hand.
Connect Typewise to Freshdesk; its integrations page says it reads, triages and resolves Freshdesk tickets end to end. Its meter is published: a ticket it closes counts as one resolution, a hand-off to a person as half, and a ticket it passes straight through or flags is free. Whether a reopened ticket counts again is not published.
Check: Run the 14-day trial (100 resolution credits) on a batch of real past tickets, including ones it should not answer. Count how many it closed and how many it handed off, and read every closed answer.
Write down what must always reach a person, such as refund disputes, complaints and anything legal, and keep that list next to the AI settings.
Check: Send one such request as a test. It must reach a person with the conversation attached, not an AI reply.
What the fixed part costs for a team of three, on annual billing, before any AI resolutions. Prices as read on each vendor’s own page; they change.
| Freshdesk Growth, 3 agents | $57 a month | $19 per agent a month billed annually ($23 monthly); read 29 August 2026 |
| Freshchat Free | $0 | free for up to 10 agents; routing rules and Freddy AI sit on paid plans and add-ons; read 1 September 2026 |
| Aircall Essentials, 3 licences | $90 a month | $30 per licence a month billed annually ($40 monthly), three-licence minimum; read 26 August 2026 |
| Typewise Starter | about $83 a month | $999 a year ($99 billed monthly), plus $2 per resolution and $1 per hand-off; read 27 September 2026 |
Together about $230 a month before resolutions. Each ticket the AI closes adds $2 and each hand-off $1: 100 closed tickets and 50 hand-offs in a month would add $250. Phone numbers, call minutes and Aircall’s AI add-ons are not in this sum.
Find the questions that repeat, answer them well in your help content, and let chat and an AI agent serve those answers, with a clear handover to your team for everything else. How much that takes off your team depends on your own ticket mix; measure it on a recent batch.
For routine questions that your help content answers well, it can. Test it on real past questions, including ones it should hand over, and make escalation to a person easy for anything complex or sensitive.
Start with chat if most customers already write to you, and add phone once call volume justifies it. Many teams run both through one help desk.
Live chat plus a help desk to capture and route tickets. Layer in AI deflection and voice as volume grows.
